DAY TEN ~ Santa Cruise Island, South Plaza Island (continued)

Half our group was still out in the field looking at the amazing giant tortoises, or browsing in the shops adjacent to this restaurant. But a few hearty souls were starting to fill their plates.

This is the exotic new sub-species that we discovered on our trip. You've got to give Peter Gallego an "A" for his providing us with a little comic relief in this otherwise very serious business of saving a few species from sure extinction, simply due to the ignorance of earlier visitors to these enchanted islands. I must admit that this is the first giant tortoise I've seen wearing sun glasses.

And I can absolutely guarantee that you won't see another giant tortoise turning himself over inside his shell. Great job Peter, and thanks for giving us all a good laugh. It's the crazy things we do that are remembered.

Now back to the real Mccoy. There is certainly plenty to eat here. This is a tortoise paradise I think.

And speaking of tortoise paradise, what more could you want on a hot day more than a cooling dip in a mud hole.

Boy, isn't this the life? It kind of makes you just want to jump right in there with them.

It looks just like one of those "health drinks" you see folks in the natural food stores mixing up in a blender. Yum!

I do believe Javier Rodriguez thinks he's found a tortoise chariot. Move over Ben Hur.
In Chapter Twenty we will see what happens in this epic chariot race. Stay tuned.
