Paris to Normandy 5

Part 5 ~ and one more of Giverny photo, and I will move on.

We went into Monet's house, but were not allowed to take pictures. This photo, however, I took from a window that overlooked the garden. Wouldn't you just love to have your backyard look like this? It must have taken constant care, but with 8 gardeners to do your bidding it would be doable. And besides, an artist has a much different life style from that of your average Silicon Valley employee. Having been one of those for over 25 years, I can vouch for the life style.

We head back to the boat, and lunch. Below is just one of the Viking Daily's which are left on our freshly pulled back bed each night by our cabin stewardess, providing us with the schedule for the next day events.

As you can see, our days were pretty full. In fact, we never once turned on the TV in our room, so we never viewed any of the daily movies that were made available to passengers. Some, like Julia & Julia I would have enjoyed seeing, but there was too much else to do without sitting in front of a TV screen in our room. In the afternoon there was a lecture given in the Viking lounge at 4:30, then cocktail hour at 5:30 where we socialized with other passengers, then the daily briefing at 6:30 where our tour director discussed the days events, and gave us a rundown on what would be in store for us on the morrow. Dinner was at 7:00, followed by a nautical talk in the lounge at 9:15. Then following the talk, we enjoyed a musical interlude from Peter, a Hungarian pianist who provided us with live music throughout the voyage. Where would we have time to watch a movie on TV? LOL

The Viking lounge was meant for relaxing, and we managed to do that every evening. Shore excursions are a lot of work, and we needed time to recuperate, and be ready for the following day.

At 1:45 pm we embark on a shore excursion, a walking tour if the town of Rouen, the capital city of Normandy. Rouen was once one of the largest and most populous cities in medieval Europe. It was one of the capitals of the Anglo-Norman dynasties, which ruled both England and large parts of northern France from the 11th to the 15th centuries. It was here that Joan of Arc was executed in 1431.

I've reached 5mb once again, so Rouen will continue in Part 6.
