Aruba 2010 Ch. 4

Day Six ~ Back at the beach for some more sun, swimming and reading. This is a typical day in Aruba, with beautiful blue skies, warm Caribbean waters, and lots of peace and quiet. Is it any wonder we always look forward to returning here each year?

Aruba-2010-chapter4-01

Looking east you can see lots of other hotels and resorts off in the distance, and the
Phoenix is at the very western edge, with no other hotels or resorts beyond us .

Aruba-2010-chapter4-02

Time for the daily muscle pose, and to model another bathing suit

Aruba-2010-chapter4-03

This is looking west, and the only folks that make it up our way are jocks who are running for exercise. And there are very few of those. Our end of Palm Beach is very tranquil, and we like it that way, a lot.

Aruba-2010-chapter4-04

Time for another Happy Hour, and Pete ordered a margarita . . .

Aruba-2010-chapter4-05

. . . and I ordered a mango daiquiri, and it was excellent.

It was funny, because on our first day here, a Saturday, the Pure Beach pool bar was packed. After that, there were very few people there for Happy Hour. A few times it was only the two of us. I don't see how they can keep the bar staff on duty with the tourist trade so sparse. I asked Albertico, on of the bar tenders, and he said that this is low season, but when it is high season, the people are stacked 3 and 4 deep trying to get in a drink order. I'm so happy we bought our timeshare here during low season.

Happy Hour is over, and now we are back at the beach waiting for the sun to do its thing

Aruba-2010-chapter4-07

I thought this star effect was pretty cool, with the reflection off the water and the wet sand

Aruba-2010-chapter4-08

We smile a lot here. The enjoyment level if off the charts. I think we really do lead a charmed life together

There was a young couple who asked Pete to take their photo together, so when he had finished, the girl offered to take our photo together as well.

Aruba-2010-chapter4-09

Her first shot was taken looking into the sun. I knew we would be just shadows . . .

Aruba-2010-chapter4-10

. . . so, I asked her to take one with her back to the sun, accentuation our tans

Aruba-2010-chapter4-11

This was a strangely beautiful sunset. It reminded me of a rocket I saw once taking off from Vandenberg
Air Force Base at sunset. It made a very erratic trail in the sky as it climbed toward the stratosphere

Aruba-2010-chapter4-12

Looking towards the east at the same time the previous photo was taken, there was a huge storm gathering

Aruba-2010-chapter4-13

Doesn't Pete look relaxed? Life is good, and I wouldn't have it any other way

Aruba-2010-chapter4-14

Dinner tonight was at our favorite Italian restaurant, Hosteria Da Vittorrio

You will notice that Pete has our carryout kit in hand. Here's a funny story. When we lived in California, there was a restaurant in Los Altos called Banderas. They had the most succulent, mouth watering rotisserie chicken you've ever tasted, and the most fantastic 007 martinis. Unfortunately we noticed a year ago that they were no longer there. Of course the portions were always HUGE, so we always took our carryout kit with us. We try to be discrete, but one time the waitress caught us filling our Tupper Ware containers with half our meal. Ever since that time she would refer to us as the Tupper Ware guys. Most restaurants serve much more food than the average person should eat in one sitting, so we always take half of it home with us to enjoy for lunch the next day. We both love left overs. The Tupper Ware is much more environmentally friendly than the flimsy styrofoam carryout containers most restaurants provide. Anyway, I thought the reputation we had acquired at that restaurant was kind of funny.

It was a beautiful night, so we decided to eat outside on the patio. Our favorite
waiter was not there. He would have made a perfect double for Richard Gere.

Aruba-2010-chapter4-16

This is actually a photo of Richard Gere, and yes, he really did look that good.

For my starter I ordered the shrimp cocktail. They have the biggest and most succulent shrimp I have ever tasted. When we first visited this restaurant, 'Richard Gere' told us that their shrimp are flown in daily from the Mediterranean. I could believe him, they were that good. For my dinner I ordered the lobster. Pete ordered a carpaccio for a starter, and a seafood paella for dinner. Both our meals were excellent.

Aruba-2010-chapter4-17

We ended our meal with coffee and a delicious Tiramisu, and Pete had a cognac

Aruba-2010-chapter4-18

On the walk back home I took this night shot of the Riu Resort. It looks like a Persian palace, or perhaps one of Saddam Hussain's many residences. It is opulent to the extreme.

I thought I could get a couple of days into this chapter, but I see I've hit that magic 5 MB barrier, so that's all for now.

Cheers!
