There was a $167 billion default to the International Monetary Fund - the I.M.F. in December of 2001 (Ooops!), the worlds largest default to the I.M.F. EVER!  This caused a change
of 5 presidents in 2 months and the peso to fall off the
1 peso = 1 USA dollar peg that was in place for 10 years,
the peso floated and is now about 5.8 pesos = 1 USA dollar
