I wanted to make an appetizer that required snow peas and I couldn’t find them in my neighborhood, so I took a bus to China Town to find them.

It’s summer time so the trees were in bloom and the streets were filled with people. I used to hate my birthday growing up in Michigan because it was the dead of winter, but here it's full summertime!

I went to three large supermarkets in China Town and no one had snow peas. I was just about give up and go home (I did get a big bottle of sake to take home for sushi delivery night) but at the last little grocery stand I found them.  I was so excited I asked her what they called them and the Chinese girl told me but I instantly forgot.  The Spanish word “chauchas” are for any kind of pea, but I still don’t know how to say the correct word in Spanish for the flat snow peas.

I had a peach last week and it was so delicious I thought it would be nice to have peach pie for my birthday dinner.  That was my sister Phyllis’ favorite pie and every time I eat a peach I think of her.  Ron was happy to make me a peach pie.

Ron makes excellent crusts.

Later Ron told me he had never done a lattice topping.

He is really an amazing pastry, cookie and cake chef!

The house is ready for our guests.  I left the Christmas lights up on the balcony for the party.

Tahitian Papaya salad, my sister’s Cindy’s broccoli casserole and paprika chicken.

Ron’s peach pie and fruit salad! Usually every year Ron makes me a German Chocolate Cake which is my favorite, but this year Ron was feeling a little under the weather so I told him he didn't have to make it, just the peach pie would do. When we told the guests there would be no German Chocolate Cake, they were like, "WHAT??? That is the only reason I came!" I guess we learned we can't skip the cake next time.

Was another amazing dinner shared with friends, life is good!

After a few days, Ron decided to make me a birthday cake after all, I'm going to kill him!
