Then onto the silk factory, they had a really great demonstration area where they showed how the silk is removed from the silk worm cocoon, turned into thread, and then dyed.
They then use punch cards on the weaving machines to make the intricate patterns. I started my career programming on punch cards in 1980 and thought that was really cool it’s still in use.
Of course there was a large shopping area and Ron and I ended up getting two shirts each. We continued into Shanghai and went to a really nice Westin hotel right in a great area of the city. We wore our new shirts to dinner where they had a great sushi buffet.
